How Embodied Processing Works

Embodied processing combines modern neuroscience with ancient healing traditions and draws from therapeutic modalities such as Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Hypnotherapy, Attachment Theory, Kiloby Enquiries and Mindfulness practices.

Human’s nervous systems are wired to respond to stresses, and then go back to a calm and present state. As we go through life, we can experience many difficult circumstances that can create stuck energy within our body. If this is not processed it accumulates and can create various symptoms and difficulties in life.

Such as:

  • Fear, sadness, anger, shame, feeling overwhelmed (anxiety and depression).

  • Physical symptoms and pain.

  • Addiction to a substance or behaviour, relationship issues, self-sabotage, low self-esteem.

Our nervous systems react to stresses with a fight, flight, freeze or fawn response. These responses are survival adaptations designed to keep us safe. This nervous system response does not suddenly turn off after danger. Following trauma, particularly complex or developmental trauma, the brain and nervous system can become stuck in a state of constant vigilance, always prepared for danger. This condition is exacerbated by the stresses of modern life.

Because this process of storing trauma is mostly unconscious, we need to access and allow the sensations in the body so we can release where they have been stuck.

Embodied Processing invites us to go on a journey of self-discovery and healing and helps by safely meeting and processing the underlying wounds that we have tried to hide from.

When we start to process these experiences through the body, it helps the body realise that the event from the past is over, and that’s when we can move on in that area of our life. We may need to address multiple emotions or sensations in a session, depending on your body's responses and your direct experience.

The Process

Each Embodied Processing session is unique. We will identify an issue you wish to explore, whether from your past or present. The focus will be on moving beyond the thinking mind and tapping into the body's wisdom.

To build a strong foundation for healing, we will create a resource of safety and stability. This is crucial to prevent overwhelm and facilitate progress. Without a sense of safety, we remain stuck and unbalanced.

We will then explore the issue, tracing it back to its emotional origins. Often, current emotions have roots in past experiences. Various techniques will help process and resolve these emotional states, encouraging you to approach emotions from a safe place rather than avoiding them. Difficult emotions, if not addressed, can become trapped in the body.

As we process these experiences, you will find resolution and completion. This helps the body recognize that past events are over, allowing you to move forward.

During a session, we may explore multiple emotions or sensations, guided by your body’s responses and lived experience.

The healing journey is lifelong, but as you attune to your body's signals, it becomes more manageable.
